About This Spot

Stepping into Kopi Es Tak Kie feels like slipping back in time, to a quieter Jakarta touched by lingering whispers of Chinatown’s rich past. Tucked away along a narrow lane in Pinangsia, this modest café pulses with the gentle rhythm of morning routines and shared moments—where the clink of spoons against porcelain and the low murmur of conversation offer a comforting soundtrack.

The air carries the warmth of brewing coffee, a deep, dark aroma that seems to cradle the space with familiarity rather than flash. There’s a softness to the pace here, an unhurried mood that invites you to linger over a glass of the signature iced coffee, where robusta’s boldness meets the creamy sweetness of milk with a delicate balance. This isn’t a place for hurried sips; it asks you to slow down, to appreciate the complexity in a cup steeped in decades of tradition.

Beyond the coffee, the kitchen quietly serves up comforting dishes rooted in Chinese-Indonesian home cooking. The textures and flavors—whether it’s silky rice, tender noodles, or delicate, handmade dumplings—feel thoughtfully crafted, offering a sense of savoring something familiar yet quietly unique. Each spoonful recalls long-standing recipes passed through generations, enhanced by touches that reflect the character of the local community.

Though the space is simple and carries the natural warmth of a tropical climate, there’s an undeniable charm in its vintage decor and packed history. It’s easy to imagine the countless conversations, the meetings of neighbors and friends, the small celebrations and solitary breakfasts that have shaped this place over time.

For those willing to explore beyond the polished facades of Jakarta’s bustling streets, Kopi Es Tak Kie offers an intimate glimpse into a city’s layered culture. It’s less about the spotlight and more about those quiet, genuine moments shared over food and a cup of coffee—the kind that lingers warmly long after you leave.

Legend nasi campur since I was a kid. The sauce hits the right spot. On the sweeter side but everything is well done!

A nostalgic coffee spot tucked inside Glodok. Es Tak Kie serves traditional style iced coffee with a bold, old-school flavour. The place is simple and packed with history… you can feel the charm of old Jakarta here. They also serve some local dishes like nasi campur and bakmi. Do note that the shop can be quite warm since there’s no air-conditioning. Still, worth visiting at least once for a taste of Jakarta’s classic coffee heritage.

First, I visited this place because of their es kopi susu, a typical Bangka coffee with a robusta blend. I ended up ordering bakmi ayam and pangsit ayam. Surprisingly, their homemade noodles were the highlight of the meal. They were very chewy and tasty, with minced ayam kampung and chicken broth. The broth was rich yet comforting. Their pangsit ayam was also very tasty, with a filling full of minced chicken. I highly recommend this place.

The original ice milk coffee in Jakarta, this legendary place is tucked behind shop houses in Chinatown near petak 46. The coffee was good and authentic, you could taste the dark roast that blends with the milk, they also have bread that's a great pairing with the coffee. Next door there is a cakwe place that is excellent and the owners will allow you to bring it in. The decor has been the same for decades, the owners too so there is few places more authentic than this in Jakarta

A chinese retro restaurant with great coffee. Also ordered the pork rice & dumpling soup. The pork rice was okay, but it felt homey though. The dumplings were great, we could taste the shrimp & meat inside.

Came here for the vibes and left with one of the most flavorful Bakmie Ayam I have ever had in my life. I had seen Kopi Es Tak Tie on Instagram reels and just for the hype, I pinned it on google maps as it had a rustic charm and I wanted some local dining experiences. As I wandered around Glodok (Jakarta’s Chinatown), I thought it was a standalone store but it was nestled within a row of eateries blocked out by wooden boards lined with bright orange advertisements. I thought I had gotten the place wrong but ask around and the locals will be happy to direct you to it. I entered the establishment and it was exactly how I had seen it in pictures. Time had stopped in another decade, the heat was sweltering and there was a buzz of people from all walks of life just enjoying their noodles. I order the “komplit” (complete) set which comes with the meatballs and the pieces of chicken and the food comes within minutes! I drizzle my noodles with some of their homemade chilli and mix everything together. I take my first bite and the noodles are perfectly al dente paired with the saltiness of the meat and the freshness of the lightly blanched greens… I am in HEAVEN. I wolf down the glistening noodles while sipping on the accompanying hot soup after every bite and I am done in 5 minutes, wondering if I should order another bowl. I resist temptation. After all that, I am dripping in sweat but the icy cold Teh Tawar (tea without sugar) cools me down, signaling the end of a very quick but delicious meal. Cash is preferred but they also have the QR code method of payment (which as a tourist, I have not quite figured out yet) This could easily have been one of the top ten bowls of noodles I’ve had in my life and trust me… I LOVE NOODLES! Now back in Singapore, I am still left with the lingering taste of that bowl of pure ecstasy.
